This medical exhibit features three dorsal (top) views of the right foot illustrating the injuries in this region at various depths. The first image illustrates the external post-accident appearance with crushing and swelling of the foot and loss of skin along the lateral border of the foot and in the proximal medial foot. The second image illustrates the underlying muscles and soft tissues of the foot with the skin and fat removed. This internal view shows the swelling and devitalization of the musculature, as well as the hematoma which developed within the soft tissues. The third image illustrates the underlying skeletal anatomy with all skin and soft tissue removed. This image reveals the various fractures and displacement of the metatarsals which is specifically on the post-accident x-rays.
